Texas is on fire, literally, and the Obama Administration is now in the unique position of having to save the ass of someone who has repeatedly attacked him. What else is new?
LUBBOCK,TX (KCBD) - Governor Perry has asked President Obama to officially declare Texas a major disaster area. Wildfires have burned or threatened all but two of the state's 254 counties.
Governor Perry's office says more than 7800 fires have charred more than 1.5 million acres. 244 families have lost their homes, and the blazes have threatened more than 8,500 others.
If a major disaster declaration is declared, Texas would be eligible for help in responding to and recovering from the emergency. Governor Perry says Texas is reaching its capacity to respond to so many emergencies.
Oh? What happen to seceding? Can't handle it on your own? I'm shocked.
To quote Governor Perry himself:
“I believe the federal government has become oppressive. I believe it’s become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of its citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state”
“There’s absolutely no reason to dissolve it. But if Washington continues to thumb their nose at the American people, you know, who knows what might come out of that.”
I'm sure Perry will receive the requested relief, because according to FEMA, Texas is the biggest recipient of federal disaster relief funds.
By the way, Texas also received $830 million dollars in federal aid under the recent budget compromise for the remainder of fiscal year 2011.
