Shouldn’t There Be Investigations?

Chuck Schumer repeats the Republican Sabotage accusation:

“Now it is becoming clear that insisting on a slash-and-burn approach may be part of this plan — and it has a double-benefit for Republicans,” Schumer (D-N.Y.) said. “It is ideologically tidy and it undermines the economic recovery, which they think only helps them in 2012.”

It’d be nice if they weren’t talking trash and actually meant it. After all, if there’s evidence the Republicans are deliberately undermining the economy, that has to be illegal. Or at least a violation of an oath or two. For that matter, why hasn’t anyone pressed Eric Cantor about shorting the U.S. Treasury while also refusing to vote for raising the debt ceiling?

A number of conservatives are also accusing Boehner and Cantor of intentional sabotage.
If it is intentional, and I believe it has to be, they should be charged with treason, IMO, of course.

I’m not sure there’s a more parsimonious explanation for the Rs’ behavior than deliberate sabotage.

“In the end, I think they are bluffing when they intimate they might take the economy over the cliff,” [Schumer] said.

Chuck Schumer knows the congressional Rs better than I do, but I do not share his confidence.

I think Schumer might just have his head up his butt on this. I firmly believe it’s deliberate.

Yeah, I agree they’re doing it intentionally and Cantor’s short sales are “an act in furtherance of”, but the govt would have to prove their intent and that isn’t easy to do. Charging them would open a can of worms….that the R’s wouldn’t hesitate to use against us, regardless of what our actual motivation may be.

At some point we just have to stop pretending we’re engaged in anything remotely resembling what was contemplated in the founding documents.
