House GOP Moves to Repeal IPAB

Here's yet another example of the Republicans chasing their hypocritical-tails on big government spending.

The House Energy & Commerce Committee on Tuesday morning approved repeal of President Obama's Medicare cost-cutting Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) by a voice vote. Democrats, who have been skittish about the panel, did not ask for a roll call vote.

The Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB), also referred to as "death panels," is one of the primary cost-cutting measures included in the Affordable Care Act. The IPAB is a panel, which won't come into effect until 2014 along with the rest of the Affordable Care Act, that will study the effectiveness of medical treatments and procedures to determine the most cost-effective way to provide healthcare, and will reimburse providers accordingly.

The primary objective of the panel is to increase efficiency and reduce costs. You know, things the Republicans are constantly crying about. "Government is inefficient" and "we can't afford it" they say.

Ironically, that's exactly why they want to repeal this cost-cutting, time-saving, common-sense advisory board. They're deathly afraid that it will work. They're afraid government will become more efficient, and that costs will go down. They're afraid of losing another set of talking points to governmental competence.

President Obama has already taken away their national security and deficit toys, and now they're going to lose another. But don't worry, they still have a death-grip on god, guns, gays, and abortion.
