Well, not really.
The Department of Homeland Security has announced plans to allow same-sex couples to cross the border together rather than separately.
The Department of Homeland Security announced today that same-sex families will soon be able to cross the border together, filing just one form for all “members of a family residing in one household.” Before, married same-sex couples had to go through customs separately because the policy referred to married couples, and thus fell under the purview of the Defense of Marriage Act. The proposed change will undergo a series of reviews and a period of public comment before it takes effect.
This is just the latest example of the Obama Administration extending a hand to the LGBT community and, more specifically, same-sex couples.
This administration has been more friendly to the LGBT community than any previous president, and the future only looks brighter. Yet despite the record, and despite all evidence to the contrary, the meme that President Obama secretly wants to prevent same-sex marriage from becoming law persists.
As far as I can discern, this meme is primarily perpetuated by members of the professional blogosphere, not the LGBT community at large.
