Leave Team Romney Alone!

Senior Romney adviser Eric "Etch a Sketch" Fehrnstrom has a sad.

BOSTON—A senior adviser to Mitt Romney lashed out at President Barack Obama's re-election campaign Friday, accusing the president of waging a campaign based on "ugly distortions and lies."

"They have gone from what started out as petty distortions and untruths to unbelievable exaggerations that diminish the office of the president and insult the American people," Romney senior adviser Eric Fehrnstrom told reporters at a media briefing at the campaign's headquarters.

Unbelievable exaggerations?

Like this?

The campaign sent an email blast Thursday afternoon featuring a video of an Obama rally in Colorado from earlier that day and falsely claimed that he wants the government to bail out every industry. “I Want To Do The Same Thing With Manufacturing Jobs … In Every Industry,” it read.

Bail out ALL THE INDUSTRIES!

And how about this?

This latest distortion touts a soundbite from Obama’s campaign speech about the auto industry turnaround, falsely suggesting that the president seeks to bail out every industry with government funds. In a press release, Romney claimed that Obama has already started the process with the energy sector.

I'm sure the news that the government has already assumed control of the energy sector would come as a surprise to the executives of Exxon. That darn tricky Obama!

Of course there's also the recent distortions of claiming the president wants to stop veterans from voting in Ohio, and that he wants to give you welfare checks for doing nothing. And if you go back further than that, Romney himself makes anywhere from 15 to 20 false statements on a weekly basis. The number of lies told by the Romney campaign is unparalleled.

My advice to Team Romney would be to just stop. No one, except for maybe Mark Halperin and Chuck Todd, and almost certainly Jennifer Rubin, is going to take you seriously.
