Representative Scott Perry (R-PA) is conflicted.
Perry wants to vote for the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) proposed by President Obama this week, but he's afraid that the president may use the power and authority to help ISIS rather than destroy them.
PERRY: In the context of an AUMF, that I understand the president has sent to the Congress, we are going to take that up I would imagine. But the conundrum for people like you, people like me, and people out in the homeland that feel the same way is that we feel duty bound to do something, to be proactive, to take action to save not only our country but our world from this growing scourge, this cancer that walks and breathes among us.
At the same time, the conundrum is regardless if the military is ready, regardless if all the instruments of power are ready, we have a commander in chief who seems not only not ready, not unwilling but really working collaboratively with what I would say is the enemy of freedom and individual freedom and liberty and Western civilization and modernity.
And in that context, how do you vote to give this commander-in-chief the authority and power to take action when you know in your heart that, if past performance is any indicator of future performance, that he won’t, and that he actually might use it to further their cause and what seems to be his cause and just drag you as a complicitor [sic] in it.
Scott Perry did not go as far as to say President Obama is a secret Muslim terrorist, at least not in this video clip provided by RightWingWatch, but he may as well have. He implied as much by alleging that the cause of ISIS is "his cause."
It's bizarre to say that the president is not ready to fight the Islamic State given that the United States and other allies have already launched thousands of air strikes against them. The president has even done so over the past several months amid protests of his decision to take action without a new Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF).
If the president has taken the fight to ISIS without an AUMF, and has now requested a new AUMF to continue the fight, how could you possibly assert that he isn't willing to fight ISIS and may actually use the authority to help them?
Those are the questions of character that immediately come to mind without even considering that the AUMF does not give the president the authority to launch attacks against our allies even if he wanted to. Where would congressman Perry even get such an idea? How does congressman Perry figure the president would use the not-unlimited authority to help ISIS?
Scott Perry is a racist yokel who has no business even serving on the local PTA.
