How has Donald Trump managed to remain the Republican presidential frontrunner for so long?
According to a new YouGov poll, Republican voters overwhelmingly trust Donald Trump on immigration more than any other candidate.
Half of Republicans view Trump as the candidate who can best handle immigration, more than four times the percentage who name Florida Senator Marco Rubio, the son of immigrants, who is in second place, far behind Trump. Only 5% believe former Florida Governor Jeb Bush would do the best job on immigration. [...]
Republicans are far more likely than the rest of the public to view illegal immigration as a very serious problem for the country (70% of Republicans say it is, compared with 46% overall).
A majority of GOP voters (63%) also agree with Trump's statement that immigrants are criminals and rapists while an overwhelming majority (73%) disagree with Jeb Bush's assessment that immigration is an "act of love."
What else is there left to say?
More than any other issue, each candidate's position on immigration may end up deciding who becomes the nominee. If that is the case, the nomination of Donald Trump is a very real possibility.
