I've lost count of how many unconstitutional policies Republicans and even a few Democrats have proposed this week.
In an interview with Yahoo, GOP frontrunner Donald Trump said we will have to consider creating a database of Muslims and, possibly, making them wear a yellow crescent.
“We’re going to have to do things that we never did before. And some people are going to be upset about it, but I think that now everybody is feeling that security is going to rule,” Trump said. “And certain things will be done that we never thought would happen in this country in terms of information and learning about the enemy. And so we’re going to have to do certain things that were frankly unthinkable a year ago.”
Yahoo News asked Trump whether this level of tracking might require registering Muslims in a database or giving them a form of special identification that noted their religion. He wouldn’t rule it out.
“We’re going to have to — we’re going to have to look at a lot of things very closely,” Trump said when presented with the idea.
Forcing Muslims to wear yellow badges wasn't unthinkable a year ago. It's unthinkable today.
As unconstitutional and fascist as this would be, there's no doubt in my mind that a significant portion if not a majority of Republicans voters will think it's an excellent idea.
Plenty of Republicans would tell you creating a database of guns is a slippery slope to tyranny, but creating a database of Muslims is common sense.
Trump is leading by double digits in every GOP poll I've seen over the last several days.
