GOP Majority Whip: No, We’ll Never Confirm a SCOTUS Nominee

Written by SK Ashby

Various media reports have alluded to Republicans being open to confirming a Supreme Court nominee during the lame duck session after the November election, but Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-TX) says that's not going to happen.

"I know there has been some members of the press who asked ... how about in a lame-duck session of the Congress," he said. "I think that is a terrible idea." [...]

"I, for one, believe we ought to be consistent, and that consistent principle is the American people deserve to be heard and their voices heeded on who makes that selection to something as important as filling this vacancy on the Supreme Court," he said.

I didn't buy the reports anyway, but it's good to be clear. Republicans have no intention of doing their constitutional duty this year.

Until they say otherwise, I will assume Republicans believe Donald Trump would nominate someone more preferable. That says more about them than President Obama.
