This is a real thing that exists.
The Ben Carson campaign has created a rap radio ad which will run in Miami, Atlanta, Houston, Detroit, Birmingham, Jackson, Memphis, and Little Rock.
If listening to that wasn't bad enough, the ad is explicitly directed at black voters according to the Carson campaign.
The Carson campaign is convinced that if he gets 20 percent of the black vote, Hillary Clinton would not win if they are head to head in the general election. [...]
“Reaching them on a level they appreciate and follow and see if we can attract their consciousness about the election,” Carson campaign spokesman Doug Watts told ABC News. “They need to get involved and express their voice through their vote.” [...]
This advertising appeal is an "expressed articulation to another market, a non-traditional voting market for Republicans,” Watts said.
I'm just another stupid white bro so my opinion can be duly dismissed, but this seems extraordinarily condescending to me.
I would say average black voters are far more informed and conscious of the most important issues of the day than your average white voter is because they are more likely to be adversely affected by the rhetoric and policies supported by Ben Carson and his fellow Republican candidates.
Like most other conservatives, Carson believes the Republican party's problem is not its message. They believe the problem is their delivery of the message and this rap ad is a stark example of that.
