Where’s the progressive outrage? Lukens was convicted of a crime and still sits in the House. Why isn’t anyone talking about him?

I don’t think Obama liked him. He didn’t seem to have too many friends.

I don’t think he said the President had no values. I thought the comments were a plea to the President to frame the budget and deficit debates in terms of bedrock Democratic ideals. Less “grand bargain”, centrist rhetoric. More the social safety net is non-negotiable. Rep. Weiner was pleading the progressive case. So, not sad that the frenzy is over, but sad that voice is silenced.

I meant to speak to the politics of the President commenting on the episode. President Obama could have easily not taken the bait in the interview. Something along the lines of “Very unfortunate. Minority Leader Pelosi taking appropriate action. People of the Congressman’s district will ultimately decide.” It felt to me the comment simply fed the insane media frenzy. And when your president and the head of your party says “Well, I’d resign” , suddenly you find yourself on the pavement with the bus bearing down. I simply don’t think this was something that needed to happen.

will just be ridiculed for sour grapes conspiracy theorism.

I wonder what the response by everyone (I’m looking at you, Congress and the media) would have been if Weiner had told the truth when first asked about this goofiness? For me, it was the repeated lying that got me. I could give less than a damn what the other side gets away with – we all know that the rules aren’t the same, but Weiner played right into their hands. I’ve followed him since he put Scarborough in his place during the healthcare debate. It makes me sad that as smart as I thought (think) he was (is), he could let himself get caught up in this trick bag.
