(Sort of the same way it’s a bit tough to feel any enthusiasm for any Clint Eastwood project–new OR old–following his little stand-up bit for the GOP.)

As for the GOP’s embrace of Orwell, that began a long time ago–around the time that the Reagan administration wanted to classify ketchup and relish as “vegetables” for school lunches and sold the idea that crack cocaine was inherently worse than the powder variety. Oh, and that “anti-Communist guerrillas who murdered nuns and priests” were “freedom fighters who deserve American support.” And that Cubans fleeing a Communist dictatorship were “political refugees” while Salvadorans and Guatemalans fleeing right-wing military dictatorships were “economic refugees.”
