Watching Senator Kit Bond of Missouri lay down the exhausted "socialism" fear-blather-nonsense point just a few minutes ago on Hardball was almost as painful as watching Senator Kip Bond pick wax out of his rather large ear before he realized Chris Matthews was talking to him.
Here we are, in the 11th hour, and all McPainlin and their flacks have is "socialism" and "Wright/terrorism". The Wright dog won't hunt, unless you're already so racist and xenophobic and generally ignorant that you'd never vote for Barack Obama anyway. The Socialist dog won't hunt unless you're rich and/or so painfully unaware of the basic facts of the last 8 years (specifically: Bush fucked the economy, McCain supported Bush, ergo McCain fucked the economy) that you'd never vote for Barack because you're too greedy or too damn stupid.
Rick Davis, who makes a lot of dough advising McRichierich, must be pinching his already unfortunately naturally pinched and woefully rodent-like visage into a tighter pointillist paintbrush than ever before as he tries to explain to his boss/candidate why these tired strategies, which haven't worked so far, are actually going to work all of a sudden because, well, because...you explain it, Steve Schmidt! It was your idea!
I have been imagining the McCain war room these last few weeks, and while we all know it's far from a happy place, I think we can also be sure it's become a pretty brutal, cutthroat environment as everyone goes rogue to cast the stench of blame as far from themselves as possible, while hoping they don't get hit with the vituperative spittle of the headman, which might cause their flesh to actually burn, so filled as it must be with bile. I predict the biggest loser of all is Mrs. Palin, who, in about 10 years time will be taking accounting class again and trying to get better than a D so that she can help her husband cheat the IRS out of more money for his snowmobiling business of which she is now the CEO. Executive experience!
