The AP's Mark Neisse on the "long form" birth certificate and why the president is completely and totally unable to release it to the public:
What the would-be sleuths won't find is Obama's "long-form birth certificate," a confidential one-page document containing his original birth records kept on file in the first floor of the Department of Health.
Those original birth records typically include additional birth details, such as the hospital and delivering doctor, said Dr. Chiyome Fukino, the state's former health director who twice looked at and publicly confirmed Obama's original long-form birth records.
But those documents are state government property that can't be released to anyone, even the president himself, said Joshua Wisch, special assistant to the state attorney general. Obama would be able to inspect his birth records if he visited the Health Department in person, but original records of live birth are never released, he said.
Of course. And so Hawaii releases a certificate of live birth for people born there, but not the long form. It's against the law to release the long form birth certificate to anyone. But if you read the comments in the article, you'll find wingnut Birthers demanding the president release his long form certificate -- somehow. Even though the state won't even allow the president himself have his long form certificate. It's against the law. Hence, Birthers are dumbstupids.
And, by the way, they're racists, too. Because even if the president were to somehow violate Hawaii state law and steal his long form certificate from the DoH, then admit his guilt by releasing it to the public, Birthers would insist that it was a forgery. Why? Facts and reality don't matter. He's an African American president and they hate him for it, so they're willing to do or say anything to de-legitimize him.
Oh, and a reminder. 45 percent of all Republicans are Birthers. And 51 percent of Republican primary voters are Birthers. Though I would wager a decent chunk of those people don't know that Hawaii is a state.
