Of course, this is exactly why the Republicans are sandbagging against the growing population of Hispanics:
In a surprising show of growth, Hispanics accounted for more than half of the U.S. population increase over the last decade, exceeding estimates in many states as they crossed a new census milestone: 50 million, or 1 in 6 Americans.
And according to a new Pew poll:
White:
2008 exit polling: Obama 43%, McCain 55%
2012 polling: Obama 43%, GOP 57%Black:
'08: Obama 95%, McCain 4%
'12: Obama 99%, GOP 1%Hispanic:
'08: Obama 67%, McCain 31%
'12: Obama 80%, GOP 20%
That's right, in each major ethnic demo the president is running about even with his 2008 exit polling result -- except with the Hispanic vote where he's gained 13 points! That's huge.
The lesson? The Republicans are about to be crushed under the weight of history. Instead of evolving with the browning of America, the Republicans are raging against it, and it's only going to further and further marginalize them. Good luck with the race-baiting and Southern Strategy to secure the aging and dwindling white vote, Republicans.
