True The Vote, a sham organization dedicated to exposing non-existent voter fraud, has filed a lawsuit against Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann and the Mississippi Republican Party, contending that the integrity of the vote has been compromised.
“All we are asking is that the MS State Republican Party follow the law; allow their designated county representatives to inspect the poll books and ballots, give them the review time they are permitted by law, and allow them to uphold their responsibility to MS voters,” True the Vote President Catherine Engelbrecht said in a statement on Tuesday. “True the Vote has been inundated with reports from voters across Mississippi who are outraged to see the integrity of this election being undermined so that politicos can get back to business as usual. Enough is enough.”
There’s no reason to mince words here.
The McDaniel campaign and now True The Vote are alleging that black voters who voted in the Republican primary contest between Chris McDaniel and Thad Cochran should not be counted.
There is no party registration in Mississippi, meaning any voter is free to vote in any primary provided they didn’t already vote in the other party’s primary.
The only reason this has become an issue is because, in this case, the voters are black. No one would launch a crusade and file a lawsuit if white people swayed the election in Cochran’s favor. And when the McDaniel campaign uses the term “liberal democrats,” that’s clearly code word for black.
Don’t forget that Chris McDaniel was busted last year for his associations with neo-confederate groups, birthers, and conspiracy theorists. And while it may be old news by now, McDaniel also pledged that he would not raise the debt ceiling and would gladly default on our debt.
This also isn’t the first time the McDaniel campaign has clashed with the state Republican party.
In April of this year the chairman of the state party came under pressure to resign for asking about McDaniel’s association with white supremacists.
