GOP Rep Says the House Discussed Arresting Attorney General Eric Holder

Written by SK Ashby

Representative Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) told his constituents at the town hall meeting last week that members of the House (leadership?) discussed arresting Attorney General Eric Holder at the 2015 State of the Union address.

Why? Because Congress voted to hold him in contempt several years ago.

“There was a discussion before the State of the Union of, because of holding Eric Holder in contempt, what role will the House play if he shows up on the House Floor for the State of the Union because he’s been held in legal contempt of U.S. Congress,” Loudermilk said. “And there was a discussion, ‘Will the Sergeant-at-Arms arrest him?’ But they checked with some of the attorneys and they said some other things were going on.”

In case you forgot, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives voted to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress in 2012 in relation to the years-long investigation of Operation Fast and Furious conducted by former Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa.

Remember Fast and Furious? The program originally known as Operation Gunrunner, which was initiated under the Bush administration in 2006, ran afoul after guns sold in the hopes of tracking them back to Mexican cartels showed up at domestic crime scenes.

Because the Justice Department was conducting an ongoing investigation of the ATF program which ran from 2006 to 2011, the department did not provide every single document demanded by the House Oversight Committee.

Because of this, the 112th Congress voted to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt in June of 2012. Representative Barry Loudermilk is a member of the 114th Congress and, according to him, they discussed arresting Holder as recently as last month.

It's not clear if House leadership discussed the idea or if Loudermilk simply huddled in a back room and compared decoder rings with the likes of Steve King or Louie Gohmert.

At the same town hall that Loudermilk revealed the secret discussion of arresting Eric Holder, he also said he would like to investigate the possibility that the Muslim Brotherhood has infiltrated the White House. And if that sounds familiar, it may be because Louie Gohmert has, on several occasions, accused Eric Holder of ignoring or aiding the Muslim Brotherhood

The 2012 vote to hold Holder in contempt was laughable. The idea of arresting the attorney general years later, in 2015, even though he was never charged with anything, is fucking preposterous.
