I think. While the president-elect's intelligence advisor, John Brennan, is a little iffy on the torture and rendition front -- no-one is entirely sure specifically where he stands -- I can't imagine the president-elect renegging on his very public and very unequivocal pledge to end torture and extraordinary renditions.
If Brennan takes over for McConnell, as has been speculated -- and if he does, in fact, plan on continuing anything resembling the Cheney policies, he'll very likely be snapped back to reality faster than he can say "stress positions." But if the president-elect somehow gives Brennan latitude on these policies, it's going to be a very painful four years for the White House, and those of us on the left will surely be among the first in line to protest.
But I don't think it'll come to that. We don't know what Brennan's involvement will be, but we do know that the president-elect has promised to reverse these policies and around 200 other Bush executive orders.
