Campaign Sweatshop

Apparently Steve Stockman’s 2012 campaign headquarters, which is presumably where his campaign against “liberal John Cornyn” also would have been based, was ordered closed last month by the local fire department.

Officials cited multiple safety violations, and the newspaper reported that campaign staffers and volunteers were working and sleeping in a commercial building that was considered unsafe for habitation.

The office had been located in a former motorcycle shop, which a friend of Stockman’s allowed the campaign to use rent-free in 2012 and 2013.

According to Stockman himself, his campaign volunteers were sleeping on the floor in the ancient motorcycle shop and eating army rations three times per day, which makes me wonder if the homeless were volunteering for Stockman.

“I could not have done it without all the hard-working, grass-roots volunteers. Believe me, we had them — young conservatives who came into an old motorcycle shop, worked the precincts and made phone calls, slept on the floor, and ate MREs [Army rations] for their three meals. There’s nothing like volunteers who believe in a candidate and a cause.”

As a man who came into possession of $350,000 under suspicious circumstances, couldn’t Stockman provide better working conditions for his loyal volunteers?

I suppose that would be a step too far toward socialism.

Stockman’s new campaign against famous liberal icon John Cornyn (R) is reportedly based out of a UPS office.
