So many people are fleeing the United States and seeking asylum in Canada, they've opened up the Olympic stadium in Montreal to house them.
From CBC News:
A temporary welcome centre has been opened at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal to house a new wave of asylum seekers coming from the United States to Quebec, many of them Haitians.
"We've never seen this before," said Francine Dupuis, spokesperson for PRAIDA, the provincial government organization that helps claimants in their first months.
"It's really quite a bit more intense than what we're used to."
Following this week's unveiling of an anti-legal immigration bill sponsored by Senators Tom Cotton (R-AR) and David Perdue (R-GA), I presume the number of people fleeing the U.S. will grow.
I believe that bill is dead on arrival and will never pass, just as most of Trump's initiatives will never pass, but there are people who may not want to take that chance. For them, it's better to be safe than sorry.
Hopefully the Olympic stadium will still be there in 2050 when refugees from the Gulf Coast flee rising tides.
