Not coincidentally, the gap between productivity and wages began to widen dramatically around the time Reagan said "government is the problem" and Americans fell in love with trickle-down economics.
According to the Republicans, Americans at the bottom of the wage pool are just lazy and shiftless. Never mind the fact that the overwhelming majority of them are working longer and harder than people did 30 years ago for roughly the same wage.
