The Chinese government has approved a new wave of trademarks for a variety of Trump-brand businesses ranging from massage parlors to an escort service. And, to be clear, these trademarks are for Donald Trump himself, not his children.
From the Associated Press:
Trump's lawyers in China applied for the marks in April 2016, as Trump railed against China at campaign rallies, accusing it of currency manipulation and stealing US jobs. Critics maintain that Trump's swelling portfolio of China trademarks raises serious conflict-of-interest questions.
China's Trademark Office published the provisional approvals on February 27 and Monday.
If no one objects, they will be formally registered after 90 days. All but three are in the president's own name. China already registered one trademark to the president, for Trump-branded construction services, on February 14.
It seems fairly clear that Trump's dealings with the Chinese and other nations is a violation of the emoluments clause of the Constitution, but no one should expect Congress to do anything about it while it's controlled by Republicans. These are men who would sell their own children's future to the Russians for a chance to cut taxes and kick millions of people off their healthcare.
The Trump regime backed down from their harsh stance against China just before the last wave of Trump trademarks were approved, and Middle-Eastern countries that Trump does business in were not-coincidentally excluded from the list of countries included in his Muslim ban.
