On Tuesday May 24th, the New Jersey Supreme Court ruled that education cuts proposed by Governor Chris Christie represented “a deprivation of the constitutional right to a thorough and efficient education to all at-risk children throughout the State" and ordered the state to spend $500 million dollars more on education than was allocated in Chris Christie's budget.
A similar debacle is beginning to play out now as Governor Fat Jesus is attempting to essentially gut the state's Medicaid program by altering the rules governing who is, and is not, eligible. The only difference this time is that he is seeking permission to implement the radical cuts before implementing them rather than after.
Adults in a family of three that makes as little as $103 a week would earn too much to qualify for health care provided by Medicaid under a sharply curtailed program Gov. Chris Christie wants the federal government to approve this year, according to state officials and advocates briefed on the proposal.[...]
The Christie administration is expected to propose cutting the maximum income level of Medicaid from $24,645 to $5,317 a year for a family of three [...]
“That is about a third of the poverty level,” Castro said. “That means that an uninsured parent working full time at a minimum-wage job wouldn’t be eligible. … A parent who works half-time for minimum wage wouldn’t even qualify.
A family of three living off of $24,000 is already struggling to get by even with the assistance of Medicaid. Without it, they will more than likely go without any healthcare, and will probably end up visiting the emergency room when it's already too late.
The moral of the story -- "Don't get sick. If you do, die quickly."
