As you’ve probably heard, rivers of oil engulfed the town of Mayflower, Arkansas over the weekend due to a leak from an Exxon oil pipeline. It’s important to note the congressman who represents the 2nd district, which includes Mayflower, is a huge supporter of oil drilling.
Tim Griffin, obviously a Republican, was elected with a 16-point margin of victory over his Democratic challenger in 2012. He used to be an aide to Karl Rove and a special assistant to President Bush. Not only that, but he ran on a platform supporting the Keystone XL Pipeline and more offshore oil drilling.
I wonder whether the people who voted for him in Mayflower, a very conservative Republican town with rivers of oil running past the various McMansions, will be joining along with the next “drill baby drill!” chant. Oh who am kidding, of course they will.
