Among the many ridiculous things House Republicans demanded over the past several days was kicking congressional staffers off their healthcare, and according to a new report Speaker John Boehner actually sought to preserve those benefits in private while he publicly supported cutting them.
Emails and documents obtained by Politico show Boehner and his aides worked with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-MD), among others, to find a way to maintain the long-standing employer contributions. Those documents also show that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was aware of the behind-the-scenes talks.
In addition to those efforts, Boehner attempted to arrange a meeting with President Barack Obama to ask for help in securing the subsidies, the documents show.
I have no sympathy for John Boehner. He may be the most ineffectual Speaker we’ve ever had and he’s been completely overruled by the Flying Monkey Caucus. He’s an empty suit with very little authority.
With that said, the next yahoo in line may not be any better. The real solution to our problems is to vote Republicans out of power at every level of government.
