Should be a gas. This is the time of year when all the right wing conservative crazies come out to show their undying support for abolishing the rights and protections for women and minorities and enslaving working people in the name of profit and general religious wackaloonery under the comforting banner of “Freedoms!” but it wouldn’t be a Republican re-branding year if they didn’t invite a whole new batch of fresh faces. With up and comers like Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, Louie Gohmert, and Michele Bachmann, and not Chris Christie, slated to speak their triumphant praises at this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference beginning March 14th, the Conservative Republican conference wishes to highlight their diversity boasting that an estimated 20% of their attendees will be minorities, just not openly Gay ones.
Catherine Herridge of the Fox News machine and Jim Hoft of Gateway Pundit will be there receiving the honorary Reed Irvine Award from Accuracy in Media for their diligent, tireless work in exposing their ignorance of the world. A true honor and role model for terrible people everywhere. The voices inside their heads must be so proud.
Then there are the speakers from Hollywood! Yeah, that’s right. The American Conservative Union is boasting their own star-studded speaker list of talent, including titans of the industry, like, for instance, the people who produced and directed, Reagan: The Movie, and 2016: Obama’s America! They assure us that their only intention is to highlight “the merits of making sure that traditionalist themes are featured in Hollywood films.”
Unlike the non-traditionalist themes in movies depicted by Hollywood liberals, conservatives are determined to insert their tradition one crappy producer at a time, but only because liberals have taken over Hollywood that conservatives feel the need to resort to such counter-insurgent tactics. The Hollywood Traditionalist Police are working the shadows.
But this is all eclipsed by the giant Planet Bizarro upon which this now very mainstream conservative conference of lunacy-under-one-roof is built, as Motherjones reminds us, that with fresh ideas men, like Robert Weissberg, the American Conservative Union and CPAC– Republican Conservatives– are never far from the White Nationalist movement.
I’m predicting a dirty, bare-footed old timey banjo fight breaking out at some point. This is a conservative movement sending out mixed messages and feelings, grappling with everything from immigration reform to gay rights to women’s healthcare, and they’re trying really hard to hold their inner-turmoil, infighting, and collective ideological dysfunction together long enough to win another election together. You know, for the kids?
This conference, as it always does, will expose the many unavoidable flaws in the Republican party and movement conservatism in general, and without any help from the “Liberal Media,” this is the time of year when all you have to do is sit back, without guilt, and enjoy the train wreck that is modern day conservatism.
I’ve pre-ordered popcorn.
