Last week the Girl Scouts of Western Washington chose to return a $100,000 donation after the donor instructed the scout troop to not use the money to support transgender girls.
After returning the donation, the Girl Scouts launched a fundraising campaign in the hopes of raising an equal amount of money, but as of today they've raised more than three times as much as their goal.
We're glad to announce that each additional $50,000 we raise will support 250 more girls. We expect 2,000 girls will request financial assistance over the next year—more than $400,000 total. So every gift, no matter what size, truly makes a difference.
With over 20 days remaining in the campaign, it's possible the troop will reach the total necessary to support every girl.
