It's not clear how Representative Louie Gohmert (R-TX) hopes to achieve this, but he appeared on Newsmax TV today and called for making an Iran deal illegal.
Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) on Friday said that Congress must use any means it has to stop a poor bargain between the U.S. and Iran over Tehran’s nuclear weapons program.
“Nearly every senator, nearly every member of Congress is so concerned about the ongoing well-being of Israel, we need to defund any effort, make it illegal, to go further on this deal with Iran,” Gohmert said on Newsmax TV’s “America’s Forum.”
Gohmert is not the first to float the idea of defunding diplomatic efforts. A group of Republican congressmen recently called on House leadership to eliminate funding for diplomats involved in negotiations.
We still don't know any concrete specifics about the deal being negotiated between Iran and other world powers including the United States, but I would say any deal is better than another war.
Unfortunately, Republicans don't share that view. It seems clear that any deal is a bad deal for them. A deal means there won't be a war, and Republicans love war the way Brick Tamland loves lamp.
Louie Gohmert briefly floated the idea of running for president yesterday, but our hopes and dreams were dashed when he clarified that he was joking.
Of course it was a joke even for that brief moment when he appeared to be serious.
