Assholery Congress Military The Media

GOP Senators Angry They Couldn’t Block Retrieval of American POW

A group of Republican senators are venting their frustration with Majority Leader Harry Reid for not allowing them to block the Obama administration from trading five Taliban prisoners for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.

For posterity, Harry Reid has it in writing.

In a letter led by Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), the senators rebuke Reid for not allowing Republicans to vote on an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act for 2014 that would have expressly barred Obama from transferring prisoners from the Guantánamo Bay detention center. [...]

Republican Sens. John Cornyn (Texas), Ted Cruz (Texas), Johnny Isakson (Ga.), Mike Lee (Utah), John Thune (S.D.), Roger Wicker (Miss.) and Mike Enzi (Wyo.) also signed the letter.

There’s no other way to say this. Republican senators who ostensibly represent the United States and its armed forces are upset because they weren’t given a chance to vote to leave Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl behind in a Taliban prison forever.

Support the troops. Unless its politically advantageous not to.

Who would want to join the military and serve their country today knowing that you may be metaphorically shit-on when you come home if certain congressmen or major media outlets believe they could raise more funds or attract more viewers by smearing you?

The amendment Senator David Vitter and his colleagues refer to would have allowed them to micro-manage every decision made toward closure of the prison at Guantanamo Bay, presumably for the purposes of blocking closure altogether.
