Texas Governor Rick Perry’s big week included confusing Lebanon with Libya, which is totally forgivable when you’re trying really hard to put on your concern-face and pretend you know, or care about any of that. Lebanon/Libya– It’s all the same when you’re prosecuting the President for your party’s sabotage.
But for Gov. Perry, it’s not all about rhetorical blunders and partisan lunacy, or a morbid fascination with signing death certificates– It’s about law and order, as well as jobs and the economy, too!
Just a few of the highlights from the desk of the Texas Governor:
Thursday, Governor Perry Signed The “Religious Freedoms Bill,” or HB 308:
AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today signed House Bill 308, which allows public school students and staff to use traditional holiday greetings and display religious scenes and symbols on school property. The governor was joined by bill author Rep. Dwayne Bohac and sponsor Sen. Robert Nichols for the signing ceremony.
“I’m proud we are standing up for religious freedom in our state,” Gov. Perry said. “Freedom of religion doesn’t mean freedom from religion, and people of faith often feel like they can’t express that faith publicly.
He calls it, “The Merry Christmas Bill” because “The Destruction Of The First Amendment Bill” might scare the kids away. Rabbi Zev ‘Howard’ Johnson was present at the signing ceremony to demonstrate that the Jewish holiday of Christmas is welcome, too. No Muslims were allowed anywhere near the signing of the bill.
And then on Friday, Governor William J. Lepetomane signed Senate Bill 21, a state-imposed drug screening bill which “will require mandatory drug screening as a condition for the receipt of unemployment compensation benefits by certain individuals.”
“Texas is a state where personal responsibility is very important, and recipients of unemployment benefits have a responsibility to be prepared to work when an opportunity presents itself,” Gov. Perry said. “Our system is designed to provide assistance to people through a difficult time in their lives, not subsidize those who would misuse the system to live a drug-abusing lifestyle. This bill protects the resources that should be reserved for those truly in need.”
I think Republican State Senator Tommy Williams summed up the logic perfectly:
“Sadly, many business owners have told me they have available jobs but simply can’t find workers to pass their company’s drug test.”
So many jobs to fill, so many drug addicts to blame.
But the topper had to be the bill he signed on Friday, after all the Constitution’s blood and guts had been spilled all over his desk, referred to as “Opening The Doors To Service Animals,” or House Bill 489, which:
allows individuals with disabilities to use the assistance of service animals in all public places, including retail businesses and restaurants, without having to show the qualifications or certifications of the assistance animal. The governor was joined by bill author Rep. Jose Menendez, sponsor Sen. Carlos Uresti and veterans Carol Anderson and Adan Gallegos for the signing ceremony.
All of the sins of anti-human legislation washed away by Governor Perry’s Compassionate-Conservatism:
Looks like animal cruelty to me.
See, kids. The Governor loves little doggies, so it’s okay to get into his van.

That’s a legal document in Texas, but I’m pretty sure that he just got married to a dog.
