This new one is off to the northwest and it's evidently moving towards land. And, of course, there's no way any booms can stop it.
The other plume to the east is six miles wide and 3,200 feet tall. Imagine a plume of oil that's twice as tall as the Empire State Building and about as wide as the Manhattan skyline from the WTC site to Central Park. The newly discovered plume to the northwest is smaller -- only 400 feet tall, then again it's sandwiched between the shallower ocean floor and the surface.
Here's the graphic I'd like to see one of the news organizations put together. I'd like to see the underwater oil flipped so it's all above water -- like enormous, miles-wide Godzilla sized mountains of oil moving towards the loop current and the Gulf coastal areas.
Only then will we truly understand how staggeringly terrible this thing is.
Anyone with some free time and some CG software wanna give it a try?
