This could be the most horrific thing I've read about in years. A Philadelphia "abortion doctor" butchering patients in conditions not suitable enough for an Eli Roth horror movie. If you have a weak stomach -- seriously, don't read this link.
My first instinct was to suggest that this looks bad for the pro-choice movement. But, in thinking about it further, it occurred to me that it looks far worse for anti-choice people. As it becomes increasingly difficult for women to have safe abortions, more of these back alley torture chambers will crop up. And they'll only grow more disgusting and deadly.
Meanwhile, the pro-choice movement would do well to immediately reinforce its emphasis on keeping this procedure "safe, legal and rare." We still don't know how the adequately do this, and as we fumble the messaging, laws are becoming tighter and more restrictive. The basic idea is to make it perfectly clear that no one is pro-abortion. We're all pro-life. But this procedure must remain safe and legal for any woman who needs it.
