The United States government is inching along literally five days a time as Congress passes yet another five-day funding bill following the passage of a similar bill last Thursday.
The short-term measure, which gives Congress until Tuesday to pass the omnibus spending package, passed by voice vote. [...]
House Republicans had originally hoped to vote on the spending bill, as well as a package to renew expiring tax credits, on Thursday. But the House must now wait to vote Friday in order to adhere to a self-imposed rule of waiting at least three calendar days after a bill is made public before voting on it.
Congressional leadership has touted a variety of "deals" they've struck ahead of passage of a long-term funding bill, but I remain skeptical.
If every controversial political rider has been removed from the omnibus bill there's a chance it could pass both chambers with Democratic votes, but if that is the case it's only matter of time before Paul Ryan becomes John Boehner.
The movement to oust Ryan will begin in earnest once hard right conservatives realize they got nothing. Again. Planned Parenthood will not be defunded, Obamacare will live, and they will be angry about it.
