At this point, I’m torn. I really don’t think we need to involve ourselves in the Middle East again for a good long time, but I can’t help but to think there’s an opportunity to prevent further chemical weapons attacks by Assad (or whichever commander might’ve ordered the attack).
On the other hand, I don’t think we can or should continue to be the World Police. Civil wars are horrifying events, and sticking our noses into another one might not be the wisest course. However, the president’s approach with Libya was masterful, though the circumstances here are almost entirely different.
Ultimately, I think we need to back away from this one.
John Schindler wrote a cautionary post here that covers the dangers of getting involved. I’m pretty much in line with his level of ambivalence.
Where are you on this thing?
(Apologies for the corny headline.)
