Epic Fail

How to Fail at Social Media

I’m a firm believer that gifs have a place in the world, and I sometimes use them when nothing else will suffice, but there is certainly a wrong way to use gifs as the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) demonstrates for us today.

NRCCDerp

No one listens to NSYNC anymore. No one has for a long time. At least not enough people that would make this Buzzfeed-style listicle understandable or relatable to the average person.

There is some merit to using trends on social media to demonstrate a point, but this is like a dog who finally caught up to the car and then had no idea what to do with it. This is embarrassingly inept, bad, and out of touch. Furthermore, NSYNC isn’t even trending today. And who cares? This listicle devoted to a “90s pop phenomenon” may have been great back in the 90s.

I repeat myself.

Even when Republicans “get” social media, they don’t really get it. This is equivalent to writing a trend piece that bell-bottoms are coming back into style as everyone shakes their head in bewilderment.

And I’m sure you’re wondering the same thing I am — are they really singing NYSNC songs at the NRCC today? Or perhaps you’re simply wondering why the hell the National Republican Congressional Committee is creating NSYNC listicles in the first place. Either way, I’m really glad I’m not one of them today.

The limited number of Tweets and Likes this NRCC post has received is more than likely owed to people making fun of it.
