Senator Barack Obama

It Won't Be Mark Warner

Here's why:

VA-SENATE
Warner (D) 57%, Gilmore (R) 32%

To snatch him up for Senator Obama's VP slot would be a major loss in the effort to lock in a solid Senate majority. Already we're losing two seats... Senator Lieberman (for what he's worth) is likely going to caucus with the Republicans following the RNC. And of course Senator Obama will hopefully be vacating his seat. Losing candidate Warner (or Senators Webb or Clinton for that matter) would be a huge mistake.

That makes me think governor or general: Governor Sebelius or Rendell. Or General Clark. Place your bets, but if I were to put money on this, I'd go with Governor Sebelius. Rendell isn't really a solid successor in 2016. General Clark's so-called "gaffe" might have hurt his chances, and he doesn't bring a political machine to the table.
