Science is controversial, at least according to Tennessee Republicans.
The Tennessee state legislature passed HB368 yesterday, a bill which mandates that public school teachers intentionally muddy the views of their pupils by teaching junk science alongside actual science. Because real science is controversial.
The teaching of some scientific subjects, including, but not limited to, biological evolution, the chemical origins of life, global warming, and human cloning, can cause controversy . . . The state board of education, public elementary and secondary school governing authorities, directors of schools, school system administrators, and public elementary and secondary school principals and administrators shall endeavor to assist teachers to find effective ways to present the science curriculum as it addresses scientific controversies.
I assume this means presenting the views of Pat Robertson and the brilliant minds at Fox News alongside the scientific consensus of NOAA, NASA, and the United Nations.
Republicans are unique in their denial of climate change among the world community. It isn't "controversial" in the rest of the industrialized world. Neither is evolution. It's a generally accepted fact.
