Jeb! Bush downplayed the Pope's call to combat climate change during his speech in front of Congress yesterday by saying Pope Francis is "not a scientist."
First of all, this is a misnomer. One does not have to be a scientist to rely on the opinions of scientists. I am not a scientist but I believe the 97 percent of scientists who say climate change is a real phenomenon precipitated by human activity.
More importantly, Pope Francis actually is a scientist. Francis studied chemistry at the University of Buenos Aires and graduated as a "chemical technician" according to his official Vatican profile.
I feel no need to rebut Jeb's claim that fighting climate change will wreck the economy because what else is there left to say? No amount of evidence will dispel this popular conservative myth. The city of Miami could be sucked into the sea tomorrow and they'd say there's 'nothing to see here.'
