TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Republican officials abruptly announced plans Saturday night to scrap the first day of their national convention, bowing to the threat of Tropical Storm Isaac as it bore down menacingly on Florida.
"The safety of those in Isaac's path is of the utmost importance," tweeted Mitt Romney, his formal nomination as presidential candidate pushed back by a minimum of 24 hours from Monday night to Tuesday.
As I wrote on Sulia last night: So they'll be vacating their arena that was 62% financed by taxpayer money -- redistributed wealth that was taken from other parts of the state and given to Tampa. Then, if there's any damage due the hurricane, Florida's Republican-led government will ask for federal disaster relief from FEMA and other agencies -- redistributed from taxpayers all over the nation. To paraphrase President Bartlet, if these small government zealots are so dead set against taxes and government spending... can we have it back, please?
