Answering the question: Why isn't the senator's overseas trip being reflected in his poll numbers?
But I wouldn't be surprised if Obama is paying a price for vamping about overseas while banks are cratering, gas prices soar and people are getting really, really nervous about their futures.
"Vamping about overseas." In one trip, Senator Obama has basically changed the entire debate about Iraq and has moved us closer to a respectable end to the war. But is Joe presuming that an extra week in America would've had a similarly positive effect on the economy? Looks like it.
Klein is a perfect example of a Washington establishment stooge who pays too much attention to the McCain campaign's "the media loves Obama" whining. So he writes crap like this as a rear-guard move -- "Well, I blogged about Obama ignoring the economy! I'm not in love! Respect me, McBush! Respect meeee!"
By the way, note Joe's update in which he tries to backpedal after being ripped in the comments.
UPDATE: Via Atrios... It appears as if the McCain campaign did, in fact, alert the BBQ Crowd to spread this "vamping overseas while the economy burns" message. Andrea Mitchell is saying it, too. (Paraphrased...)
MSNBC: McCain campaign is criticizing Obama for being overseas while voters at home are struggling.
And... hmm... why are the voters at home struggling? I wonder why... Vexing...
