For some unknowable reason, the former chairman and CEO of American International Group (AIG), Hank Greenberg, has donated $10 million to Team Jeb.
Mr. Greenberg’s largess, confirmed by people with knowledge of Right to Rise USA’s fundraising, becomes another milestone in the unprecedented flow of money in the 2016 election. [...]
Right to Rise USA has spent more than $47 million on advertising, according to a Wall Street Journal review of Federal Election Commission records. That is far more advertising money than any other 2016 entity has spent, yet Mr. Bush is polling in the single digits.
Team Jeb! hasn't simply spent more money than any other candidate; they've spent more money than all the other candidates combined. And what do they have to show for it? They have one of the most embarrassing campaigns I can recall.
If spending nearly $50 million didn't do the trick, maybe another $10 million will. Or maybe not. Maybe Hank Greenberg is exactly the kind of megadonor who will gladly flush huge sums of money down the toilet to support a failing campaign but will vigorously oppose the idea of paying even 1 percent more in taxes.
