Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) is a member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, but he has no idea what relations we have with foreigners.
While speaking at CPAC today, Rubio thought he was saying something clever about President Obama's willingness, or a lack thereof, to destroy ISIS, but he said something ignorant instead.
Speaking before the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Maryland, Rubio told radio and TV host Sean Hannity that “if we wanted to defeat them militarily, we could do it. [Obama] doesn’t want to upset Iran.”
Referring to the United States’ ongoing negotiations with Iran to contain that country’s nuclear program, Rubio continued, “In [Obama’s] mind, this deal with Iran is going to be the Obamacare of the second term, and he doesn’t want them sending military to the region because they think the region belongs to them.”
If you've even casually observed the news over the past several months, you're likely aware that Iran has cooperated with others in the region and has even launched attacks against ISIS.
But Marco Rubio is not a casual observer; he's a senator who sits on the Select Committee on Intelligence.
On second thought, being a senator and sitting on important committees in the World's Greatest Deliberative Body™ with access to classified information doesn't necessarily mean you aren't a casual observer in the year 2015.
For the record -- I have no idea what it means to say that the Iran deal will be the "Obamacare of the second term." I doubt Rubio could tell you what that means.
