And the crowd went wild…
Last night, at the Missouri State Fair, an event that received $400, 000 in taxpayer support, decided to give the all-ages crowd a lesson in wingnut-humor by using a rodeo clown wearing an Obama mask during the bull riding event, and the announcer asked the crowd if they wanted to “see Obama run down by a bull.”
Egged on by the crowd and the announcer, “One of the clowns ran up and started bobbling the lips on the mask and the people went crazy. Finally, a bull came close enough to him that he had to move, so he jumped up and ran away to the delight of the onlookers hooting and hollering from the stands.”
Spokesperson for The Missouri State Fair issued an apology:
“The performance by one of the rodeo clowns at Saturday’s event was inappropriate and disrespectful, and does not reflect the opinions or standards of the Missouri State Fair. We strive to be a family friendly event and regret that Saturday’s rodeo badly missed that mark.”
Ha. Sure thing. This is part of an ongoing theme in Wingnuttia, U.S.A.
Earlier this month, the dart game at the Ostego County Fair in New York featured Obama heads on their dart board game.
Whether it’s “zombie Obama targets” sold at NRA conventions, or the president being run down by a bull, or the president’s face being used to win a prize in a dart game– these aren’t private gatherings, or the private jokes between nut jobs. This is being done at public events– taxpayer-funded public events.
There is no false equivalence to be had. There is no “both sides” bullshit to offer up as an apology for this behavior.
When the left protested President Bush’s wars and theft of the treasury using NAZI signage and violent imagery, it wasn’t indicative of the mainstream, which right wing conservatives use as a sort of good-for-the-gander excuse. In the case of President Obama, all this stuff is coming from the top down, now. The right wing crazies with the misspelled signs are now running the congress.
