No more horse-drawn carriages in Manhattan.
“It’s over,” said New York Mayor Bill de Blasio. “We are going to quickly and aggressively move to make horse carriages no longer a part of the landscape in New York City. They are not humane. They are not appropriate to the year 2014.”
The new humane mayor of NYC was sworn in on January 1st and he promises to take action during his first week in office by banning the carriage horse industry from the congested streets of NYC and replace them with “electric, vintage-replica tourist-friendly vehicles that provide jobs for current drivers.”
Yeah, I know it’s quaint and nostalgic, but it’s tremendously cruel to the animals, especially when it’s 120-degrees in July. Sorry, but nostalgia doesn’t justify this. Besides, I’m always satisfied when politicians care enough to pay attention to the awful and self-indulgent things we do to animals.
