Morning Joe during the 8 a.m. hour: seven people in five windows rationalizing torture and Dick Cheney's involvement in it. Very serious cable news talkers repeating the debunked line about how we're "less safe" without torture (including the false assumption that it works) and how on 9/12 everyone would've given Cheney carte blanche to torture.
Scarborough: "History will be kind to Dick Cheney." Smart. Throw in with Cheney, Joe.
Again, there are many reasons we have laws and law enforcement. One of those reasons is to prevent vigilante justice and maintain order. If my family is harmed, my first instinct is to destroy whoever did it. If everyone acted that way, we'd have anarchy. So there are laws and processes in place to maintain order. Using the excuse that anyone would've authorized torture on 9/12 is like saying anyone would've formed a posse after a rape.
Matthews tried to corner Scarborough by asking him if he would've preferred Dick Cheney in charge during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The answer is obvious. Dick Cheney most likely would've nuked Cuba and many of us wouldn't be here today. Regardless of the circumstances, cooler heads must prevail.
History isn't going to be kind to Cheney. Or Joe Scarborough.
