What do you call an organization which regularly resorts to lies, exaggerations, obfuscations, intimidation, distraction and bullying to disseminate and implement its agenda?
You call it the Republican Party, of course.
The obviousness with which Republicans (and the greater unified Right Wing) has conducted itself in the face of any earnest attempts at governance in this complex sociopolitical landscape borders on the cartoonish, as virtually every utterance emanating from their Bullshit Pulpit is drenched in schoolyard-level disingenuousness.
And why do they persist with such blatantly dumbass tactics? Because they work!
Most folks want to get along. Really. Most people from most countries want to feel safe, make a living, feed their families and otherwise live their lives. Period. That's certainly what most Americans want.
But to decipher the Right's constantly beating war-drums you'd think any attempts at civilizing an historically uncivilized world were actually anti-American heresies spewed from a laughing Satan's (or Stalin's) thrusting, gyrating groin.
The hilarious push-me-pull-me of Newt Gingrich's positions on Libya, as a most recent example, epitomizes the shamelessness with which the bold bullies operate, eager to capitalize on the narrow perspective of its thoroughly terrorized audience (courtesy of Fox News and the smattering of AM radio kooky kiosks belching invective-laced nonsense as insidiously as radioactive steam gushes from a breached nuclear reactor) in order to create a listenership, who, deprived of a wider range of opinions, accurate historical analyses and encouraged to wholly embrace Fear Itself, trample over one another to heed the illusion of civic awareness that the Right has cunningly concocted.
And through this brilliantly base enterprise, the progress that should have been America's defining trait as the world evolves from its paranoid post-World War II mentality, has been virtually stopped cold.
The joke, of course, is that the Republican Party's agenda actually has precious little to do with governance for, based on their output in both word and deed, they absolutely, unequivocally suck at being a legislating, representative organ of American society where the welfare of its citizens are of genuine concern.
Instead, their ham-handed policies (expressed by cranky-pants shills) are extensions of soulless corporate objectives, whose sole purpose is to perpetually profit. And worse, those brave souls who have tried to maintain a sensible and sane conservatism are marginalized or exorcised from what the party has become, doing away with anything which would moderate such clearly aberrant behavior.
And in the face of a spreading global awakening among citizens who have grown restless and weary of the steady infringement upon their rights and needs, the Right has become exponentially more vicious, more violent. And more obvious.
Because, let's face it: any organization which has to rely on lies, exaggerations, obfuscations, intimidation, distraction and bullying must not have the plain, simple truth on its side.
What do you call that?
