New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has publicly stated that his office has opened an investigation of the Trump Foundation in light of recent events that seem like a clear indication that Trump's "charity" is violating laws governing charities.
"My interest in this issue really is in my capacity as regulator of nonprofits in New York state. And we have been concerned that the Trump Foundation may have engaged in some impropriety from that point of view," the elected Democratic official said.
He added: "We have been looking into the Trump Foundation to make sure it's complying with the laws that govern charities in New York." He did not elaborate on what wrongdoing Trump's nonprofit might have committed.
David Fahrenthold at the Washington Post recently revealed that Trump's foundation paid out $100,000 to his deputy campaign manager David Bossie, the chairman of Citizens United, who used that money to fight Schneiderman in court.
The Post also revealed that Trump has not personally donated to his foundation since 2008 and he regularly uses the money donated by other individuals to pay for services at this own companies. Trump even used foundation money to buy a 6-foot tall painting of himself.
It seems impossible to me that there is no "impropriety" at the Trump Foundation. There must be.
If there isn't, our laws really are a complete joke and nothing matters.
