David Letterman, Joe Klein and the majority of Americans get it: McCain is full of shit.
There should be absolutely no question in the minds of Barack Obama and his staff that this debate is ON.
In 2006, in my congressional district, the Democrat in the race, John Hall, attended a debate which his opponent, then Rep. Sue Kelly (R), canceled on at the last minute. The debate went on -- with John Hall, the moderator, and an empty chair. This, compounded with video footage of Sue literally running from a reporter with a camera asking her a question, laid bare to the electorate the truth: Sue Kelly was a chickenshit who didn't want to answer any real questions.
John Hall went on to win the election, and he serves my district in Congress today -- the first Democrat since the Gingrich Revolution to do so.
If Senator Obama shows up to discuss his policies with Jim Lehrer, that works fine for me. Everyone with a brain knows that John McCain is, at this point, merely a receptacle for lies.
