I can’t stop laughing at this.
During a meeting of the Saline County, Kan. Commission last Tuesday, a discussion over whether to hire an architect to design repairs to local bridges turned heated. Commissioner Jim Gile argued that the country should hire an architect rather than “nigger-rigging it,” a remark that prompted laughter from others in the room, according to the Salina Journal. When Gile was asked what he said, he replied, “Afro-Americanized.” [...]
Gile, who is serving his first term as a commissioner, said that he’s not racist. “I am not a prejudiced person,” Gile said. “I have built Habitat homes for colored people.”
I’m not racist. When I said “nigger” what I meant was “Afro-Americanized.” And by that I meant The Coloreds.
The reason I am laughing and the reason those in the room with Gile laughed are not the same.
I am laughing because he perceives “colored people” to be an appropriate apology or substitute for what he said. I suspect those who were present at the time and found his words to be amusing similarly identify one with the other.
Rand Paul fared only slightly better today.
