The Republicans and their wingnut affiliates have developed a system whereby they can literally get away with any and all displays of awfulness. They can filibuster funding for the troops, they can filibuster job creation, they can block unemployment benefits, and no one will notice.
Oh, and they can do this, too:
On his blog Thursday, Bryan Fischer defended his comments this week that the Medal of Honor has become "feminized" because "we now award it only for preventing casualties, not for inflicting them."
Fischer, who is the "Director of Issues Analysis" for the conservative Christian group the American Family Association, explained himself after what he called "blowback" to his column: "The bottom line here is that the God of the Bible clearly honors those who show valor and gallantry in waging aggressive war in a just cause against the enemies of freedom, even while inflicting massive casualties in the process."
"What I'm saying is that it's time we started imitating God's example again," Fischer wrote.
Now, there's nothing wrong, obviously, with the Medal of Honor being feminine or masculine or miscellaneous. But this assbag is using "feminized" as a pejorative, which is insulting women, and he's suggesting that saving lives, rather than taking lives, is somehow unworthy of honoring.
They're shameless and, at least for now, untouchable. I imagine on MSNBC sometime today there will be debate between a "pro-feminized-medal" talker and an "anti-feminized-medal" talker. And this is precisely how the far-right gets away with this crap -- anything they say is accepted by cable news as a valid point of debate.
